As a mum, there are a gazillion things demanding our attention. From kids, to cooking, to washing to cleaning.
In trying to cope with our motherly responsibilities, it’s easy to disregard the damage that stress is doing to our mental and physical health. We tend to not notice how stressed we are either – just taking day by day, as the needs of our family are prioritised over our own wellbeing.
I know this all too well, having juggled three young babies on my own, whilst hubby worked long hours and limited help from extended family. From my experience, if you don’t keep stress in check, your body will soon start showing the effects, like anxiety, depression, aches, pains and weight gain.
So take charge now to steer yourself towards positive wellbeing.
Try these 3 simple strategies and notice how your mood and energy changes.
- Set aside 20 minutes a day for quality time with yourself
This sounds hard to do when you’re a busy mum, so ask your friends, family or neighbours to help you for just 20 mins a day (just 20 mins is all you need to recharge). With this time, do something simple that you enjoy like walking, reading a book or taking a bath. I used this time for a walk or light jog around the neighbourhood and it did wonders for clearing my mind and reducing stress.
Remember, don’t use this time to do chores or run errands. Let this 20 minutes be just for you and a chance to recharge and refresh for the day ahead.
- Shake the stress off through regular physical activity
Exercise has been known to stimulate many of the positive brain chemicals that leave us feeling happier and more relaxed. It can literally shake the stress off of you, so keep your body moving. You don’t need to go to the gym either – walking, dancing, yoga, or pilates will give you the energy boost you need.
- Use Magneasium for smoothing aches and pains…. and also the mind
Magnesium is a calming mineral that nourishes the nervous system. It helps prevent and reduce anxiety, stress, restlessness and irritability. Supplementing with magnesium can help to alleviate anxiety-related symptoms including insomnia. Studies have shown that a deficiency in Magnesium can also contribute to depression, aside from other physical issues, such as premenstrual symptoms, weight gain and muscle/joint pain.
Your health and well-being are as important as your responsibilities. Spend some time on yourself and live a long and energetic life with your loved ones.
